Many Taiji practitioners aim for and actually do achieve some real "calmness" and "relaxation", but a lesser number achieve true "sinking"; and still fewer still reach the level of real "grounding", and as a result very few students ever directly experience the resultant "rebounding force" powering thru their own bodies.... Some who are fortunate enough to have good-level Teachers have directly felt the EFFECT of this rebounding force as part of the fajin from their Teacher but, despite their best efforts, they can't seem to reproduce this power themselves... The reason? They haven't been taught the correct method for "standing" practice, and/or they haven't committed to it deeply and for a long enough period. As my own Teacher said many times: "If you don't like standing, start liking it in fact you must learn to love it, because there can be no clear "understanding" without "standing." Michael Phillips |
